BRITAIN is on course for another bumper year for commercial property investment in 2006, after a record £50 billion of offices, shops, leisure outlets and industrial buildings changed hands in 2005. CB Richard Ellis, the world's biggest property consultant, said that £43.7 billion of commercial properties had changed hands by the end of November. After a last-minute rush to complete deals by the year-end, £50 billion of transactions are expected to have been finalised before January — boosted by a £13 billion spending spree by German, Irish and Middle Eastern investors.

Michael Simpson, partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC), has been appointed full-time liquidator of Shepherds' four funds domiciled in the Isle of Man in an attempt to retrieve as many assets as possible for investors. You may recall previous bulletins we have covered detailing the plight of this fund and other similar Traded Life Policy investments in particular Mutual Benefits Corporation (MBC) whose license was suspended in May 04 by the SEC. London based financial services firm, Old Mutual, has finally won its bid to take over Swedish life insurance company, Skandia. The original bid was made some months back but turned sour when Skandia’s directors urged its shareholders to reject it.
